About Tubbs SnowshoesFrom the beginning, when Walter F. Tubbs launched his snowshoe business in 1906 trekking through the snow has never been easier and more enjoyable. Tubbs has been the leading manufacturer of lightweight and versatile snowshoes for the entire family, in all types of terrain and snow conditions. He has worked hard at making Tubbs snowshoes efficient, durable and comfortable with innovative designs for women, men and children. By 1915 the Tubbs factory produced 50,000 pairs of snowshoes, this order was from the British government for the WW1 troops. In 1928 Admiral Byrd and Norman Vaughan wore Tubbs snowshoes for their South Pole expedition making this expedition the first successful American expedition to explore the Antartica since 1840. Norman Vaughan also scaled Mt. Vaughan and elevation of 10,000 feet in 1995 at the age of 90, he has never used any snowshoe but Tubbs. Proving that Tubbs snowshoes have been stepping all over the continents. The Green Mountain Bear Paw wooden snowshoe was designed in 1958 and is still sold today. Tubbs was sold in 1988 to Ed Kiniry who re-introduced the snowshoeing market along with the first lightweight aluminum snowshoe in 1990. By 1993, the first asymmetrical aluminum snowshoe racing frame became part of the Tubbs 10K Race Snowshoe, for an effortless running stride and was a huge success. In 1998 Tubbs became the first manufacturer of women specific snowshoes featuring women specific bindings. Moving on to recreational snowshoeing in 1999, Tubbs expanded to Europe, Japan and Scandinavia. With innovation for exploration, Tubbs is constantly improving their snowshoe design, performance, fit and comfort. A program that was developed by Tubbs just for kids is the Winter Fit for Kids curriculum & snowshoe education program. This program brought snowshoes into physical education classes for kids, bringing healthy, easy, comfortable and enjoyable snowshoeing for the entire family to enjoy. |
